AAC & Social Communication

Alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) can look different for every person. Developing communication skills is a necessary step towards independence and there are many techniques that can be used to facilitate that. I have continued education specifically for developing those skills in children and it continues to be an area of interest for me professionally. Social communication skills are those skills that aid kids in the social setting. Below are some examples of what can be worked on when building those skills.

  • Low-Tech AAC

  • High-Tech AAC

  • Strategies for Communication Partners

  • Verbal Communication

    • Metaphors

    • Similes

    • Sarcasm

  • Nonverbal Communication

    • Facial Expressions

    • Gestures

    • Body Language

  • Problem Solving

  • Conversational Norms

My Approach

My approach is not straightforward. I do not deliver a one size fits all type of therapy for a reason. Every child is different! Depending on your child's needs, age, interests and abilities, I develop a therapy plan that allows your child to thrive and build those skills towards independent generalization from the start. Using my years of experience along with evidence based practice, your child will have a speech-language therapy experience that is as unique as they are!
